What do social networks bring to serious games? That is the question I wanted to propose an answer to at the Serious Game Expo 2012 and again at the Games for Health. Indeed, it would be a shame nowadays not to use social networks when developing serious games targeting a wide range audience. In this article, you’ll find some elements to answer that specific point while benefiting from the essence of my lecture about « Social Serious Games ».
Through seriousgameblog.com, I offer you an in-depth analysis showing how a serious game industry pioneer (Succubus Interactive was established in 2002!) is using social networks / API to give a new dimension to the serious games depending on the needs and the communication objectives of the client. Specifically, this presentation help defining the metrics on social networks, the case of serious games on these platforms and the expectations of the players.
As for the advergames / promotion games, the talk will compare games carrying out an “expert message” with other well known non-gaming techniques of spreading over social networks (fan page, content update, engagement rules, etc.). Finally, will be discussed future trends on how open graph allows developers to use relevant user data to better game pedagogical content transmission.
With this presentation, Succubus Interactive wish to help the market’s actors to acknowledge what the good practices are as well as understanding how these platforms can be a benefit to the serious games; the main objective still being the consolidation of the serious game position in France and Europe.
